Philip Guston, The Hill (1971), sold for $4.03m (GBP3.04m), more than the low estimate at Sotheby's in London on June 24.

The sale beat the previous auction result for this work by $3.96m, equivalent to an annualized return of 10%. It last sold at auction in 1983 for $66,000 at Christie's.
