The South London Gallery will host 'Encantados,' a new exhibition by Brazilian artist Paulo Nimer Pjota, running from May 1 to August 23, 2026. Presented in the Main Gallery, the exhibition will feature a series of large-scale paintings executed in oil, tempera, and acrylic on canvas, alongside a specially commissioned mural.

Pjota's work for 'Encantados' draws on a diverse range of influences, integrating elements from art history, popular culture, and mythology. The exhibition explores themes prevalent in Brazilian hip-hop and rap music, as well as the aesthetics of graffiti art and folk tales. His compositions often create 'magical environments' that merge disparate historical and cultural references.

The imagery within Pjota's pieces includes mythical characters, animals, and imaginary beasts, alongside more mundane objects such as vases, shells, flowers, and plants. Celestial bodies like the sun, stars, and moon also feature prominently, contributing to narratives that reflect on notions of 'value' and propose an 'alternative future.'
