Pablo Picasso, Buste d’homme barbu (1965), sold for $2.25m, more than the low estimate at Sotheby's in New York on May 20.

The sale beat the previous auction result for this work by $1.2m, equivalent to an annualized return of 3%. It last sold at auction in 2005 for $1.05m at Christie's.

Oil on canvas, 61.0 x 48.9cm. The work has been traded 7 times in the past.
