Nottingham Contemporary has announced 'Chico da Silva: And the soul is for the birds,' the first European institutional solo exhibition dedicated to the Brazilian artist Chico da Silva (also known as Francisco da Silva). The exhibition is scheduled to open on 6 June and conclude on 6 September 2026.

Da Silva's work is recognized for its engagement with indigenous Brazilian art, drawing extensively from mythology, folklore, and cosmology. His distinct artistic vocabulary frequently incorporates fantastical creatures and explores themes often associated with primitive art.

The artist worked predominantly in painting, gouache, and drawing. This presentation at Nottingham Contemporary marks a significant moment for Chico da Silva's international profile, building upon prior appearances at major events such as the São Paulo Art Biennial.
