Nicolaes Maes Work Sells for $41,900 to Deliver a 1% Annualized Return

Nicolaes Maes, Portrait of Wigbold Slicher (1627-1718), three-quarter-length, leaning on a window sill, a landscape beyond sold for $41,900 (GBP31,800), more than the low estimate at Christie's in London on December 3.

The sale beat the previous auction result for this work by $15,900, equivalent to an annualized return of 1%. It last sold at auction in 1993 for $26,000 at Christie's.
