The National Portrait Gallery has announced 'Marilyn Monroe: A Portrait', a forthcoming exhibition scheduled to run from June 4 to September 6, 2026. The presentation will commemorate the centenary of Marilyn Monroe, examining her enduring image through diverse artistic interpretations.
The exhibition is set to feature works across various mediums, including photography, painting, screen prints, and sculpture. Participating artists include Andy Warhol, Pauline Boty, Richard Avedon, André De Dienes, Bruno Bernard, Milton H. Greene, James Gill, Rosalyn Drexler, Audrey Flack, Cecil Beaton, Philippe Halsman, Eve Arnold, Inge Morath, Alfred Eisenstaedt, Sam Shaw, George Barris, Allan Grant, and Joseph Cornell. These contributions will collectively explore Monroe's multifaceted public and private personas.
This exhibition aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of Monroe's representation in portraiture and her sustained influence as a cultural subject across the 20th century. It seeks to illuminate the various artistic approaches to capturing and constructing her iconic image.
