A Divided Germany in 1980, Revisited

Museum Ludwig in Cologne is set to open 'Sammlung Fotografie: Zweimal Deutschland um 1980,' an exhibition exploring photographic perspectives from East and West Germany around the year 1980. The exhibition will run from April 18 to October 11.

This photography exhibition focuses on the experiences of daily life experiences in the divided Germany. Highlights include images by Evelyn Richter, who worked primarily in the former German Democratic Republic (GDR), and documented ordinary life as well as musicians and the cultural scene, especially in Leipzig.

Featured artists include Derek Bennett, Christiane Eisler, Karl Kugel, Ute Mahler, Henry Maitek, Evelyn Richter and Erasmus Schröter.

The exhibition's draws on the Museum Ludwig's holdings and contributions from institutions such as the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst (HGB) Leipzig and the Evelyn Richter Archive.
