Morris Louis, Slow Place (1962) sold for $584,200, more than one and a half times the low estimate at Sotheby's in New York on May 16.

The sale beat the previous auction result for this work by $509,200, equivalent to an annualized return of 7%. It last sold at auction in 1997 for $75,000 at Christie's.
