Montague Dawson, Dawn Mists, the Clipper Nicoya (1959), sold for $139,700, more than one and a half times the low estimate at Sotheby's in New York on February 5.
The sale beat the previous auction result for this work by $115,700, equivalent to an annualized return of 3%. It last sold at auction in 1977 for $24,000 at Christie's.
