MMCA to Host Major Do Ho Suh Survey, Exploring Four Decades of Memory and Identity

The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA), opens a solo exhibition dedicated to Do Ho Suh, surveying his four-decade practice. Running August 27–February 9, 2027, the exhibition delves into Suh's explorations of home, memory, and identity within a globalized context.

Suh is known for his translucent fabric architectural installations, which recreate spaces he has inhabited across the world, from his childhood home in Seoul to residences in New York and London. These works, alongside his drawings, photographs, and film, examine the psychological and physical dimensions of displacement, reflecting on how individuals carry their personal histories and a sense of belonging across different geographies. The survey presents his multidisciplinary approach to these themes.

MMCA Director Kim Sunghee highlighted the exhibition's importance, stating, "This exhibition, which sheds new light on Do Ho Suh’s work within the context of Korean contemporary art, stands as a significant occasion to further deepen research and discourse on his practice." She expressed hope that the works would offer visitors "a meaningful opportunity... to reflect anew on the world in which we live today and on human life itself."
