MMCA Gwacheon Unveils Renewed Permanent Exhibitions

The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA) in Gwacheon will unveil a renewed presentation of its permanent exhibitions, 'MMCA Collection: Korean Modern and Contemporary Art I and II,' on 22 April. This reimagining aims to broaden the scope of works on display, providing a more comprehensive narrative of Korean modern and contemporary art history.

The renewed exhibitions feature an expanded roster of artists, including figures such as Lee Insung, Park Sookeun, Kim Whanki, and Yun Hyong-keun, alongside Park Rehyun, Jeong Jeonghee, and Lee Kisoon. The selection further incorporates works by Oh Yoon, Jung Jungyeob, Yun Suknam, Ko Younghoon, and Ahn Sangchul, among others.

The scope of the collection presentation has been expanded beyond traditional painting and sculpture to encompass a wider array of mediums and artistic movements. Visitors can expect to encounter watercolor, oil paintings, drawings, photography, prints, and digital artworks. The exhibition also features tapestry and craft works, addressing topics from Minjung art and feminist art to hyperrealism, reflecting diverse facets of Korean art production.
