MMCA Gwacheon Celebrates 40th Anniversary with 'Imaginations in Light'

The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA) Gwacheon will inaugurate its 40th-anniversary exhibition, 'Imaginations in Light,' on Friday, July 10, 2026. The comprehensive show, which will run until October 31, 2027, is dedicated to the exploration of light across various artistic disciplines.

The exhibition features works by a roster of international and Korean artists, including Philippe Parreno, Kim Ayoung, James Turrell, Iván Navarro, Kim Haneul, Bang Hyobeen, Im Jungjoo, Ha Jihoon, Hwang Hyungshin, Moon Kyungwon, Jeon Joonho, Hito Steyerl, Jenny Holzer, Anri Sala, Wael Shawky, Lee Ufan, and Betty Gold.

Employing a range of mediums such as installation, film, performance, sound, illumination, LED panels, sculpture, and digital art, the featured works delve into concepts of perception, memory, space, architecture, and the relationship between nature and technology. Special screenings are slated to take place around August 25.
