Michael Ancher Work Sells for $82,800 to Deliver a 5% Annualized Return

Michael Ancher, Sketch for "Taking the Lifeboat Through the Dunes" (Skitse til "Redningsbåden køres gennem klitterne") (1883), sold for $82,800 (GBP61,900), more than twice the low estimate at Phillips in London on March 7.

The sale beat the previous auction result for this work by $75,700, equivalent to an annualized return of 5%. It last sold at auction in 1983 for $7,046 at Bruun Rasmussen Kunstauktioner.

Oil on canvas, 45.4 x 58.1cm. The work has been traded once in the past.
