Max Ernst, Marriage of Heaven and Earth - Variation in Blue and Red (1962), sold for $169,700 (GBP127,000), more than the low estimate at Christie's in London on March 6.
The sale was below the previous auction result by $170,500, realizing a 50% negative return. It last sold at auction in 2013 for $340,200 at Sotheby's.
Oil, decalcomania, and spritz technique on panel, 35.0 x 27.0cm. The work has been traded twice in the past.
