Matthew Marks to Host "Joan Brown: The Golden Age"

Matthew Marks Gallery will present "Joan Brown: The Golden Age," an exhibition focusing on the artist's late works, encompassing both painting and sculpture. The exhibition will be on view from May 8 to June 27, 2026, at the gallery's 523 West 24th Street location in New York.

The presentation will explore themes central to Brown's practice during this period, including her engagement with concepts of the Golden Age, animal companions, duality, and regeneration. Known for her distinctive style, Brown frequently utilized enamel on canvas, among other mediums.

Brown's work has been the subject of numerous institutional exhibitions and is held in prominent collections, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Berkeley Art Museum, and the Orange County Museum of Art. Her art has also been featured in past Whitney Biennials and the Carnegie International.
