Matthew Barney to Unveil New Sculpture at Aspen AIR 2026

Matthew Barney is set to unveil a new large-scale sculpture, "ZONE DEFENSE: Old Snowmass Parallax," as part of Aspen AIR 2026. The presentation will take place on July 31, 2026, at 11 am MDT, across Rose Ranch and the Paepcke Auditorium at Aspen Meadows.

This new work extends Barney's established investigation into themes of physical endurance, mythology, and material transformation. The project is understood to incorporate elements of sculpture, performance art, and film, drawing on topics such as American football, the American West, and the concept of parallax.

"ZONE DEFENSE: Old Snowmass Parallax" also features contributions from artists David Thomson and Raphael Xavier. The event will include a related artist keynote by Barney, offering further insight into the project.
