Mark Rothko Work Sells for $9.27m to Deliver a 13% Annualized Return

Mark Rothko, Untitled (1959), sold for $9.27m, more than one and a half times the low estimate at Sotheby's in New York on May 19.

The sale beat the previous auction result for this work by $9.25m, equivalent to an annualized return of 13%. It last sold at auction in 1976 for $20,600 at Sotheby's.
