Marc Chagall, Soleil et âne rouge (1982) sold for $1.12m, more than one and a half times the low estimate at Sotheby's in New York on May 14.

The sale beat the previous auction result for this work by $617,600, equivalent to an annualized return of 3%. It last sold at auction in 2001 for $500,000 at Sotheby's.
