Marc Chagall, Le Baou de Saint-Jeannet (1969) sold for $2.19m, more than one and a half times the low estimate at Sotheby's in New York on May 13.

The sale beat the previous auction result for this work by $885,000, equivalent to an annualized return of 2%. It last sold at auction in 2006 for $1.3m at Sotheby's.
