Marc Chagall, La synagogue (1914), sold for $475,100 (GBP355,600), more than the low estimate at Christie's in London on March 6.
The sale beat the previous auction result for this work by $335,100, equivalent to an annualized return of 2%. It last sold at auction in 1981 for $140,000 at Christie's.
