Madame Yevonde, Metis (1935) sold for $29,200, more than nine and a half times the low estimate at Rago Arts & Auction Center in Lambertville on February 12. The Vivex color print, which is embellished with gouache and ink, is an example of Yevonde's virtuosity with a method of producing high-quality color photographs developed in the 1930s.
The sale beat the artist’s previous auction record by $554, a 1% rise. The artist’s previous auction record was set by the same work when it sold for $28,700 at Christie's on November 16, 2012.
