M.F. Husain, Untitled (1974), sold for $544,100 (GBP412,800), more than two and a half times the low estimate at Phillips in London on June 26.
The sale beat the previous auction result for this work by $510,800, equivalent to an annualized return of 12%. It last sold at auction in 2002 for $33,300 at Christie's.
Oil on canvas, 126.5 x 101.0cm. The work has been traded twice in the past.
