Lucy Elizabeth Kemp-Welch, The Joy of Life (1906) sold for $169,400 (GBP128,000), more than the low estimate at Sotheby's in London on July 2. The oil on canvas work has been traded once in the past.
The sale beat the artist’s previous auction record by $35,700, a 26% rise.
The previous record was set by The Lumber Team (1937), which sold for $133,600 at Duke's on November 03, 1988.
