Lucas Museum of Narrative Art Opens with Star-Studded Gala in Los Angeles

The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art officially opened its doors in Los Angeles on Saturday, September 19, with a gala at its One Lucas Plaza location in Exposition Park. The institution is dedicated to visual storytelling, celebrating humanity's stories and the artists who illustrate them across diverse forms, from prehistoric art to modern screen art.

The opening night drew figures from film, music, and the arts. The event was co-chaired by Tom Cruise, Greta Gerwig, Sir Lewis Hamilton, Steven Spielberg, and Pharrell Williams. Entertainment for the evening included performances by Voices of Fire, Jon Batiste, Queen Latifah, and the Black Eyed Peas, with a drone show narrated by Oprah Winfrey and Samuel L. Jackson.

George Lucas, the museum's founder, articulated his perspective on the institution's broad scope for art. He stated, "Art is in the eye of the beholder. If it is emotional to you, then it’s art... I believe it, wholeheartedly, that you get to decide what art is."
