Louis Gauffier Work Sells for $44,500 to Deliver a 1% Annualized Return

Louis Gauffier, Portrait of a Young Man with Mount Vesuvius Beyond sold for $44,500, more than the low estimate at Sotheby's in New York on May 21.

The sale beat the previous auction result for this work by $16,400, equivalent to an annualized return of 1%. It last sold at auction in 2000 for $28,000 at Christie's.
