Lisa Brice, After Embah (2018) sold for $6.87m (GBP5.41m), more than five times the low estimate at Sotheby's in London on March 4. The synthetic tempera, gesso and ink on canvas work has been traded twice in the past.
The sale beat the artist’s previous auction record by $3.7m, a 100% rise.
