The Kunstmuseum Pablo Picasso Münster will host "Christo and Jeanne-Claude: un|realized," the first exhibition in Germany dedicated to the artists' unexecuted projects. Scheduled to open on April 4, and run until June 28, the exhibition offers a focused exploration of some of their ambitious proposals.
Organized with the support of the artists' foundation, the exhibition will present works in various media, including drawings and prints. These works provide insight into the extensive planning and conceptual development that underpinned projects spanning decades.
The artists' 20 to 25 unrealized projects ranged from wrapping Picasso's monumental sculpture Bust of Sylvette in the grounds of New York University to covering Cologne Cathedral and Over the River in Colorado.
The presentation, curated by close friend of the artists Matthias Koddenberg, will examine how these unrealized works are fundamental to understanding Christo and Jeanne-Claude's career, highlighting their consistent engagement with monumental scale, public space, and the temporary nature of art.
