MUNCH in Oslo has announced a forthcoming exhibition by German artist Katharina Grosse, titled 'Black Bed'. Scheduled to run from September 26 to December 31, 2026, the exhibition will feature new large-scale painting and installation works by Grosse, establishing a direct dialogue with the artistic legacy of Edvard Munch.
The exhibition will showcase Grosse's distinctive use of spray painting as a medium, applied to complex installations that explore themes of contemporary art, colour, and immersive experiences. This presentation on MUNCH's Floor 3 aims to engage with art history and the transformative potential of painting, building on Grosse's established practice of recontextualizing architectural and natural environments.
The artist commented on the preparation process, stating, "Working in Munch’s studio marks the first time I have used a studio designed by another painter specifically for his own work and needs. ... How to stage that vitality will be the center of my upcoming show," said Katharina Grosse. The statement underscores the specific influence of Munch's creative spaces on her new body of work.
