John Singer Sargent Work Returns to Auction

John Singer Sargent, Portrait of Lt. General Sir Charles Dobell, K.C.B., C.M.G., D.S.O., Com. Legion of Honour (Fr.), is due to be sold at Bonhams in London on March 25, 2026 with a $26,900 (GBP20,000) to $40,300 estimate.

It last sold at auction in 2004 for $78,100 at Christie's. The current low estimate is 27% lower than its previous low estimate of $37,200.

Oil on canvas, 55.8 x 40.6cm. The work has been traded twice in the past.
