John Currin, The Danes (2006) sold for $50,400, more than the low estimate at Christie's in New York on May 15.
The sale was below the previous auction result by $89,600, realizing a 64% negative return. It last sold at auction in 2007 for $140,000 at Phillips de Pury.
Oil and shellac over etching on paper, 18.0 x 21.1cm. The work has been traded once in the past.
