Jehangir Sabavala, The Journey of the Magi (1963) sold for $2.73m, more than four and a half times the low estimate at Sotheby's in New York on March 17. The Oil on canvas work has been traded twice in the past.
The sale beat the artist’s previous auction record by $1.14m, a 71% rise.
