Jean Paul Riopelle, La Forêt (The Forest) (1953), sold for $3.16m (GBP2.37m), more than one and a half times the low estimate at Christie's in London on March 5.

The sale beat the previous auction result for this work by $914,700, equivalent to an annualized return of 3%. It last sold at auction in 2015 for $2.24m at Sotheby's.
