Jean-Honore Fragonard, The Happy Family, also known as Young Couple Contemplating a Sleeping Child, or The Return Home, or The Reconciliation, sold for $3.32m (EUR2.87m), more than one and a half times the low estimate at Christie's in Paris on March 25.

The sale beat the previous auction result for this work by $3.32m, equivalent to an annualized return of 7%. It last sold at auction in 1922 for $1,726 at Christie's.

Oil on canvas, 71.0 x 89.0cm. The work has not been traded before.
