Howard Hodgkin, Mrs Acton in Delhi (1967) sold for $2.32m (GBP1.74m), more than two and a half times the low estimate at Bonhams in London on October 16. The oil on canvas work has been traded twice in the past.

The sale beat the artist’s previous auction record by $105,200, a 4% rise.
