Archaeologist and Artist Howard Carter's Auction Record Jumps 43%

Howard Carter, Portrait of Hatshepsut's Grandmother, Queen Seniseneb (1897) sold for $67,400 (GBP52,900), more than three times the low estimate at Christie's Online on December 10. The pencil, pen and brown ink, watercolour, and bodycolour on paper work by the man who discovered King Tutankhamun's Tomb, has been traded twice in the past.

The sale beat the artist and archaeologist's previous auction record by $20,600, a 43% rise.

The previous record was set by Portrait of Shepsut (Hatschepsut) from Tibetan tomb no. 51 (1910), which sold for $46,900 at Freeman's on June 16, 2015.
