Honore Daumier, The Butcher, Montmartre Market, also known as The Butcher, The Butcher of Montmartre, or The Butcher at His Stall (1857), sold for $164,300 (EUR139,700), more than twice the low estimate at Christie's in Paris on April 15.

The sale was below the previous auction result by $68,400, realizing a 29% negative return. It last sold at auction in 1994 for $232,700 at Loudmer.

Oil on paper laid down on panel, 20.7 x 27.6cm. The work has not been traded before.
