Henry Moore, King and Queen (1952) sold for $35.13m (£26.34m), more than two and a half times the low estimate at Christie's in London on March 5.

The sale beat the artist’s previous auction record by $2.02m, a 6% rise.

The bronze with a dark green and brown patina work was acquired directly from the artist and had not been traded before.

Conceived in 1952-53 and cast the same years by the Galizia Foundry, London, in an edition of four plus one artist's cast. Two subsequent bronzes cast for the collections of the Tate in 1957 and the Henry Moore Foundation in 1985.
