Helen Frankenthaler, Cloud Harbor (1974) sold for $2.11m, more than one and a half times the low estimate at Christie's in New York on May 15.
The sale beat the previous auction result for this work by $1.51m, equivalent to an annualized return of 7%. It last sold at auction in 2007 for $601,000 at Sotheby's.
