Hans Arp, Figure-germe dite l’apres-midinette (1959) sold for $3.59m, more than two and a half times the low estimate at Sotheby's in New York on May 13.
The sale beat the previous auction result for this work by $3.45m, equivalent to an annualized return of 11%. It last sold at auction in 1995 for $140,000 at Sotheby's.
