Hanne Darboven's Der Sand (1979) sold for $150,200 (EUR132,000), more than the low estimate at Van Ham Kunstauktionen in Cologne on June 4. The Ink on glassine paper. 456 sheets work has been traded once in the past.

Hanne Darboven (1941–2009) was a German conceptual artist known for large-scale, repetitive installations combining handwritten numbers, calendars and text to explore time and memory.

The sale beat the artist’s previous auction record by $39,100, a 35% rise. Her previous record was set by Atta Troll (1988), which sold for $111,100 at Kunsthaus Lempertz on December 01, 2012. The work had not been traded before.
