Gwen John's Auction Record Increases by 2%

Gwen John, Girl in a Blue Dress (1914) sold for $523,800 (GBP403,200), more than three times the low estimate at Christie's in London on October 16. The oil on canvas work has not been traded before.

The sale beat the artist’s previous auction record by $14,800, a 2% rise.

The previous record was set by Dorelia By Lamplight, At Toulouse (1903), which sold for $509,000 at Sotheby's on November 10, 2014. The work had not been traded before.
