Gustave Courbet Work Sells for $965,200 to Deliver a 3% Annualized Return

Gustave Courbet, La Trombe (1867) sold for $965,200, more than one and a half times the low estimate at Sotheby's in New York on May 14.

The sale beat the previous auction result for this work by $398,700, equivalent to an annualized return of 3%. It last sold at auction in 2009 for $566,500 at Sotheby's.

Oil on canvas, 65.4 x 81.2cm. The work has been traded 19 times in the past.
