Giovanni Grubas's Auction Record Jumps 14%

Giovanni Grubas, Venice, A View of the Riva degli Schiavoni with the Doge’s Palace, monogrammed G, and A View of the St Mark’s Square (1859) sold for $77,200 (EUR71,500), more than twice the low estimate at Dorotheum in Vienna on October 23. The oil on canvas work has not been traded before.

The sale beat the artist’s previous auction record by $9,684, a 14% rise.

The previous record was set by Venice the Grand Canal with Santa Maria della Salute and Punta della Dogana in the Distance (Undated), which sold for $67,500 at Dorotheum on May 10, 2022. The work had been traded twice in the past.
