Gerrit Adriaensz Berckheyde Work Sells for $1m But Delivers a 34% Negative Return

Gerrit Adriaensz Berckheyde, The Grote Markt, Haarlem, looking west, with the Grote Kerk (St Bavo's) and the fish-market, the Town Hall beyond sold for $1.01m, more than the low estimate at Christie's in New York on February 5.

The sale was below the previous auction result by $522,800, realizing a 34% negative return. It last sold at auction in 2006 for $1.53m at Christie's.

Oil On Panel, 50.9 x 39.7cm. The work has been traded twice in the past.
