Georges Hugnet's Auction Record Increases by 1%

Georges Hugnet, "Il faut bien oublier," dit le lynx rendu à liberté (1936) sold for $38,100, more than five times the low estimate at Sotheby's, Online on June 20. The collage of halftone photographic reproductions and lithographic elements had been traded once in the past.

The sale beat the French artist’s previous auction record by $724, a 1% rise.

Georges Hugnet (1906–1974) was also a poet, writer and filmmaker who was associated with the Dada and Surrealist movements.

The previous record was set by Les Charmes Des Saisons (1937), which sold for $37,400 at Christie's on December 01, 2015.
