Gary Hume and the writer Martin Gayford will launch his new monograph on the former YBA artist at the Royal Academy of Arts in London on Friday, June 26.

A conversation between the artist and the writer will be followed by a signing of Gary Hume: Begging for It, which is published by Lund Humphries.

Hume, who is represented by Matthew Marks Gallery, first made his name with "Door" paintings, initially based on hospital doors. He has continued working with high-gloss industrial paint to create memorable pieces based on the silhouettes of animals and human figures

Hume told the Guardian newspaper in 2024: “I’ve never been a conceptual artist. What interests me is the space inside the frame, how to give it muscle and energy."
