Mazzoleni's booth at Frieze Seoul features works by artists including Agostino Bonalumi, Michelangelo Pistoletto and Salvo, the last of which was snapped up by a VIP collector. Image via Instagram courtesy of the gallery.
Among the VIPs who flocked to the fair were artists Takashi Murakami and Mark Bradford, the latter accompaned by Malia Obama, the eldest daugher of the former US President.
But the VVIP was South Korea's First Lady, Kim Hea Hyung, who gave a short speech to help launch the fourth edition of the fair in Seoul.
Early sales included a new work by Sarah Sze, Escape Route, which was reportedly sold by Gagosian before the doors even opened, and a work by Italian artist Salvo on Mazzoleni's booth. The latter went for more than $1 million.
This year, Frieze Seoul will be hoping celebrity visitors make up for missing galleries: Sadie Coles, Timothy Taylor and Michael Werner are all conspicuous by their absence.
