The Fridericianum will present a solo exhibition featuring the work of Charles Ray and the artist plans to be in Germany for the opening to act as a visitor guide.

Opening on August 22 (until January 3, 2027), the exhibition will present a focused overview of the Los Angeles-based artist’s sculpture, which engages with themes of physicality, spirituality, and art history.

The artist made his debut in Kassel in 1992 when he participated in documenta 9, a prestigious exhibition organized that year by the curator Jan Hoet.

On the opening day of this summer's exhibition, his first institutional show in Germany, Ray intends to lead a guided tour of his work accompanied by Bernhard Mendes Bürgi, the former director of the Kunstmuseum Basel, which presented a major show of the artist’s work a decade ago.
