Franz Kline, Untitled (Study for Charcoal, Black and Tan) (1959) sold for $88,900, more than twice the low estimate at Phillips in New York on May 14.

The sale was below the previous auction result by $93,600, realizing a 51% negative return. It last sold at auction in 2011 for $182,500 at Sotheby's.

Ink and gouache on paper, 35.6 x 27.6cm. The work has been traded 4 times in the past.
