Frank Lloyd Wright's An Important Double-Pedestal Lamp for the Susan Lawrence Dana House, Springfield, Illinois (1903) sold for $7.49m, more than twice the low estimate at Sotheby's in New York on May 13. The iridized and opalescent glass, brass-plated “colonial” zinc came, bronze work has been traded 5 times in the past.

Unlike Wright’s typical clients, who were middle-class business men, Susan Lawrence Dana was an independently wealthy woman who supported social justice for women and black Americans. She was also the first women to commission the architect, giving him a substantial budget to remodel her family’s home and design its furniture and fixtures.
